Staffords personal life was often marked by gloominess and struggle. Her personal life had a great influence in her stories. In The Zoo by Jean Stafford shows how impactful childhood is to the adult person by using symbolism and characterization. The author uses the zoo to represent a meet situation where people are forced to rely on others. In the zoo, animals are kept in cages for entertainment and amusement of people, but the unjustifiable animals who are born independent dont like the purlieu in zoo.
